In their words

Longwood Plastic SurgeryBreast lifts are typically performed under general anesthesia, which means you’ll sleep through the operation. Mastopexy usually takes one and a half to three and a half hours during which your surgeon will use specialized surgical techniques to maximize your results while promoting minimal recovery.
JL Plastic SurgeryPeriareolar mastopexy : This involves a circular incision around the areola and is most suited for those with mild laxity.
Dr. Ashley Nadia BoustanyBreast lift is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.
Dr. Mark MarkarianDr. Markarian always strives for natural-looking results combining breast reduction with a breast lift procedure.
Joseph A Russo MDDr. Russo uses specialized breast lift techniques to reshape internal tissue rather than just pulling the breast skin tight. This approach helps create a self-supporting breast contour that looks natural and stands up better to the effects of time.

Longwood Plastic SurgeryA breast lift can be done solely on its own or paired with a breast augmentation (breast implants) to increase breast volume.
JL Plastic SurgeryLollipop/vertical mastopexy : This technique involves a circular incision around the areola and a vertical scar below the nipple; it is most appropriate for moderate laxity.
Dr. Ashley Nadia BoustanyYour breast lift may involve repositioning the nipples to the center of the breast mount or trimming excess skin from overly large areolas.
Dr. Mark MarkarianFurthermore, a circumareolar breast lift is only suitable for patients with small or medium-sized breasts.
Boston Center for Plastic Surgery-Chestnut HillIf your nipples point downward or fall below the breast crease when unsupported, a breast lift can reposition them for a more natural height. After a breast lift, patients can expect several weeks of recovery. Initially, there may be swelling, bruising, and discomfort, managed with prescribed pain medication. Patients should wear a surgical bra 24/7 for several weeks to support healing and avoid strenuous activity for at least two weeks to prevent complications.
Dr. Vickram Tandon | Tandon Plastic SurgeryWhile you will see some improvements immediately, it can take six weeks or more to see the most dramatic improvement in your breast lift results. It is important to remember that this procedure may impact your ability to breastfeed.A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is designed to elevate and reshape the breasts, restoring a firmer, more balanced silhouette without necessarily increasing or decreasing size.
Taylor & Sullivan Plastic SurgeryWhile our Boston Breast Lift procedure is meant to reshape and add perkiness to the breasts, it does not add volume.Breast lift and breast augmentation surgeries are similar and are both usually performed under general anesthesia.

FAQ

Breast Lift in Boston: common questions

How much does Breast Lift cost in Boston?

Breast Lift generally runs $7,000–$14,000 per procedure, and each Boston clinic sets its own price. The biggest variables are the provider's experience level and the specific device or product used. Newer technology and senior injectors price at the upper end. Pricing is quoted in US dollars (USD). Request a consultation from any of our listed Boston clinics for a personalized quote.

When will I see results from Breast Lift?

Initial results in 2–4 weeks, with full results developing over 3 months as collagen builds. Boston providers typically schedule follow-ups to track progress.

How long do Breast Lift results last?

Results vary by patient, but most Boston providers report 6–18 months of sustained benefit from a full Breast Lift series.

Do I need a lift, implants, or both?

The simplest test is where your nipple sits relative to the fold beneath your breast. If it sits at or below that fold, a lift is what repositions it, and implants alone will not fix that. If your breasts sit high enough but have lost fullness at the top, implants restore that volume. Many patients want both, which is a combined augmentation with mastopexy, a longer operation with a slightly higher revision rate but a single recovery.

What are the scars like?

Scars depend on how much lifting is needed. A minor lift may need only a scar around the areola. Moderate lifting adds a vertical line from the areola to the fold, called a lollipop. Significant lifting adds a horizontal scar along the fold, called an anchor. Scars are permanent, red for several months, and typically fade to pale lines over one to two years. Any surgeon offering a significant lift with no scars is describing something else.

How long does a lift last?

Most patients hold results for ten years or more, but skin continues aging and gravity does not stop. Weight fluctuation and subsequent pregnancy are the two things that most reliably undo a lift, which is why surgeons generally advise finishing childbearing first. Wearing good support and maintaining stable weight extends the result meaningfully.

Will I be able to breastfeed afterward?

Many patients can, though a lift carries somewhat more risk to milk ducts and nipple sensation than augmentation does, because the nipple is repositioned. If future breastfeeding matters to you, say so clearly at consultation, since technique choices can preserve more of the ductal system. And if you plan to have children soon, waiting is generally the better decision anyway.

Is it covered by insurance?

Almost never as a cosmetic lift. Breast reduction, which removes tissue as well as lifting, is sometimes covered when documented neck, back, or shoulder symptoms meet a carrier's criteria. If you have both sagging and significant volume causing physical symptoms, ask the surgeon's office to explore reduction coverage rather than assuming the whole thing is out of pocket.
