About Chin Liposuction

A short procedure, usually under local anesthesia, that removes the fat under the chin and along the jawline through incisions a few millimetres long, defining the jaw in one session with results that are permanent at a stable weight. The right choice when the problem is fat and the skin is firm; a neck lift when it is loose skin or muscle bands.

Sessions

One procedure of 30 to 60 minutes; permanent if weight stays stable

Downtime

2 to 5 days off work, a chin strap for a week, swelling and bruising settling over 2 weeks, final contour at 3 months

Good candidate

Adults with a pocket of fat under the chin that pinches between the fingers, firm skin that snaps back when pulled, and a defined jaw underneath; people with loose neck skin, visible vertical bands or a recessed chin usually need a neck lift, chin implant or both instead

  • Defines the jawline in a single session where Kybella takes two to four rounds and CoolSculpting one to two
  • Fat cells removed do not return, so the result holds at a stable weight
  • Done under local anesthesia through three tiny incisions, with a few days of downtime rather than weeks
  • Skin often tightens modestly over the following months as it retracts over the new contour

FAQ

Chin Liposuction in Raleigh: common questions

How much does Chin Liposuction cost in Raleigh?

Chin Liposuction generally runs $2,500–$6,000 per procedure, and each Raleigh clinic sets its own price. The biggest variables are the provider's experience level and the specific device or product used. Newer technology and senior injectors price at the upper end. Pricing is quoted in US dollars (USD). When will I see results from Chin Liposuction?

Initial results in 2–4 weeks, with full results developing over 3 months as collagen builds. Raleigh providers typically schedule follow-ups to track progress.

How often should I get Chin Liposuction?

Maintenance schedules vary. Most Raleigh providers recommend periodic refresh sessions every 6–12 months once optimal results are achieved.

Am I a candidate for chin liposuction, or do I need a neck lift?

Two tests. Pinch under your chin: if you can gather a pad of fat between your fingers, liposuction can remove it. Then pull the skin gently and let go: if it snaps back, it will retract over the new contour; if it stays slack or you see vertical bands when you grimace, the problem is skin and muscle, and the ASPS advice is a neck lift instead. A recessed chin makes any neck look fuller; chin filler or an implant may be part of the answer. Age matters less than elasticity, and surgeons see good candidates from their twenties to their sixties.

How is it done?

Local anesthesia with or without light sedation, in an office procedure room. Through one incision under the chin and one behind each earlobe, each about three millimetres, the surgeon infiltrates numbing fluid and then removes the fat with a fine handheld cannula, contouring along the jawline. Thirty to sixty minutes. A compression chin strap goes on before you leave. Some surgeons add an energy device under the skin to encourage tightening; it adds cost and a burn risk and the evidence for it is modest.

How much does chin liposuction cost?

$2,500 to $6,000 in the US, all-in, with most quotes between $3,000 and $4,500. It is the least expensive liposuction area because it is small and done under local anesthesia. Adding an energy device, or combining with chin filler or a limited neck lift, raises the price. Canadian pricing tracks similar figures in dollars. By comparison, Kybella typically runs $1,200 to $1,800 per session with two to four sessions needed, so the totals often meet.

What is recovery like?

Swelling and bruising under the chin for one to two weeks, a chin strap worn most of the time for the first week and at night for a few more, two to five days off work, and no heavy exercise for two weeks. Contour is visible within the first week, most swelling is gone by four to six weeks, and the final result arrives around three months as the skin retracts. Numbness under the chin is normal for a few months. Firm lumps that soften with massage are common in the first weeks.

Chin liposuction, Kybella or CoolSculpting?

All three remove fat under the chin; they differ in how many visits, how much control, and cost per result. Liposuction is one session under the surgeon's direct control, with the most predictable contouring along the jaw and the ability to treat a larger pocket; it has a few days of downtime and a surgical risk profile. Kybella is FDA-approved for moderate to severe fullness under the chin and needs two to four sessions a month apart, each with a week of swelling, and it does not sculpt the jawline. CoolSculpting is a non-surgical freeze with one or two sessions and modest reduction. For a small pocket in a patient who refuses surgery, the non-surgical options are reasonable; for a defined result in one go, liposuction wins on efficiency.

What are the risks?

The general liposuction list applies, scaled to a small area: bruising, swelling, persistent numbness, contour irregularities, fluid collection, infection and, with energy devices, burns. The chin and neck add their own, which is why the surgeon's anatomy training matters: injury to the marginal mandibular nerve that moves the lower lip (usually temporary weakness of the smile), injury to the great auricular nerve behind the ear, a hematoma that can be large in this loose tissue, and a hollow or depression under the chin from removing too much fat, which is difficult to correct. Skin that was borderline loose can look looser once the fat under it is gone.

Will the fat come back?

The cells removed do not. Weight gain enlarges the fat cells that remain, so a significant gain can refill the area partially, but the proportion stays improved. At a stable weight the result is permanent; skin laxity from aging is a separate process that a neck lift addresses later if needed.
