Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid — a molecule your body naturally produces to break down dietary fat. When injected into the fat under your chin, it dissolves the fat cell membranes. Your body then clears the destroyed cells via the lymphatic system over the following weeks. Since the cells are gone for good, results are permanent.

Most people need 2–4 treatment sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Some need up to 6 sessions for severe fullness. Your provider will assess your "before" and recommend a treatment plan during consultation.

Significant. Plan for 3–7 days of visible "bullfrog" swelling under the chin after each session, which is the body's response to the destroyed fat cells. Bruising and tenderness are also common. Most people schedule sessions when they can lay low for a week.

Kybella is injection-based (no device pulling on skin), while CoolSculpting uses cold and suction. Kybella often has more visible post-treatment swelling. Cost is similar.
