Skinvive

The first injectable approved in the US to improve skin quality rather than add volume. Micro-droplets of hyaluronic acid placed across the cheeks hydrate the skin from within for about six months, improving smoothness and glow without changing the shape of the face.

Also called: skinvive by juvederm, skin booster, hyaluronic acid skin booster, injectable moisturizer

Skinvive answers a request injectors have heard for years: I do not want more volume, I want better skin. It is a hyaluronic acid product from the Juvederm family, but it is not a filler in the way patients mean the word. It is placed as micro-droplets just under the surface of the cheeks, where it does what hyaluronic acid does best, hold water, and the skin above it becomes smoother, more hydrated, and visibly more luminous for about six months.

What it does

The product is a thin hyaluronic acid gel injected in a grid of tiny droplets across the cheeks. Rather than adding shape, it improves hydration in the skin itself, which shows as a smoother surface, softer fine lines, and the glow people describe after a good facial, except it lasts months instead of days. Trials measured the improvement as increased skin smoothness and hydration for around six months. There is no change to the face’s contours, which is the point for many patients and the reason it appeals to people who feel finished with volume.

What to expect

Treatment takes about twenty minutes with numbing cream. Each cheek receives a series of quick small injections. Afterward there are small bumps at each point for a day or two, sometimes mild swelling, and the glow develops over one to two weeks as the product settles. It is commonly combined with neuromodulators, lasers, or a filler plan, and it suits every skin tone.

Who it suits

Dull, dry, crepey, or rough cheek skin at any age. People in their 30s who want maintenance without changing their face. People in their 50s and beyond whose skin quality has aged faster than their volume. Anyone who has felt filler looked like too much on them and wants a different kind of improvement.

It does not lift, fill, or treat pigment. Volume loss still needs filler or Sculptra; sun damage still needs light or laser.

What it costs

Typically $600 to $1,000 for both cheeks, per treatment, repeated around every six months. Most clinics price it as a treatment rather than per syringe.

Choosing an injector

Ask how many Skinvive treatments the injector has done and to see results at one month in daylight. Ask how they handle bumps and how they combine it with other treatments. It is a technique-light product compared with structural filler, but even injection depth and spacing matter for an even result.

Frequently asked

Skinvive questions, answered

Is Skinvive a filler?

It is made of hyaluronic acid like fillers, but it is formulated and placed differently. Fillers are thicker gels injected deeper to add volume and shape. Skinvive is a thin gel injected as tiny droplets just under the skin surface across the cheeks, where it holds water and improves the skin's texture and glow without changing contours. Approved for exactly that use, it is the first product of its kind in the US.

What does it feel like and what is the recovery?

A series of small, quick injections across each cheek, usually with numbing cream. Afterward, small bumps at the injection points are normal and settle within a day or two, with mild swelling for a few days. The glow becomes visible over one to two weeks as the product integrates.

How long does it last?

About six months in trials, with many people reporting improvement toward the end of that window. Repeat treatments maintain the result. It does not build volume over time; each treatment refreshes the skin quality.

What does it cost?

Typically $600 to $1,000 for both cheeks, depending on the city and the number of syringes used. It is priced per treatment rather than per syringe at most clinics. For a six-month result, many people compare it to a series of facials and find it holds up.
