Jeuveau was launched with a nickname, Newtox, and a strategy: same results as Botox, cosmetic use only, lower price. It has since become a standard option on med spa menus, and for most patients the honest summary is that it does what Botox does for a little less money.
What it does
Like every neuromodulator, Jeuveau relaxes the muscle it is injected into by blocking the nerve signal that makes it contract. It is approved for frown lines and used across the forehead, crow’s feet, and the rest of the face exactly as Botox is. Dosing converts one to one, so an injector uses the same units of Jeuveau they would of Botox. Onset is around three to five days, full effect at two weeks, and results last three to four months.
Why choose it
Price is the main reason. Jeuveau is sold as a cosmetic brand with no medical indications behind it, and its manufacturer competes with promotions and per-unit pricing that often lands a dollar or two below Botox at the same clinic. Over a year of treatments, that adds up. Some patients also report slightly faster onset, and some injectors prefer its feel for certain areas. A smaller number of people find it wears off a little sooner, which is worth knowing before switching.
If you are happy with your current brand and its price, there is no reason to change. If you are price-comparing, Jeuveau is the brand to ask about.
